Jefferson County BoundariesWith a population of 551,798, Jefferson County has the fourth highest population of any county in Colorado. Lakewood is the most populous city, but the county seat is Golden. With its location along the front range of the rocky mountain, immediately west of Denver, the county’s slogan is “Gateway to the Rocky Mountains”.

Jefferson County is commonly called “Jeffco”. The name Jeffco is incorporated in the name of the Jeffco School District, which serves the entire county. Jeffco is also incorporated in the unofficial monikers of many Jefferson County agencies and many businesses located in the county.  Most of the population lives in the suburban communities of Applewood, Arvada, Bow Mar, Columbine, Edgewater, Golden, Ken Caryl, Lakeside, Lakewood, Littleton, Morrison, Mountain View, Superior, Westminster and Wheat Ridge. There are also a large number of unincorporated and census designated communities located outside of the metro area in the foothills – Aspen Park, Buffalo Creek, Conifer, East Pleasant View, Evergreen, Genesee, Indian Hills, Kittredge, Pine, Pine Junction and West Pleasant View.

The median household income of Jefferson County is $68,748. Residents enjoy the many recreational trails in urban areas, as well as in Chatfield State ParkGolden Gate Canyon State Park, Staunton State Park, Pike National ForestRoosevelt National Forest, and the Lost Creek Wilderness.
